Crepe myrtle is everywhere in the South, and in Woodstock it is usually a front yard or driveway planting rather than a back yard tree. Most removals come down to one of two things: it outgrew the spot it was planted in, or it was topped so badly over the years that it stopped looking like anything.
Like river birch, they are normally multi-stem. What reads as one tree is three to seven trunks out of a common base, and the crew quotes on the whole base rather than the biggest stem. Measure across the full cluster at ground level.
The wood is dense for its size but the stumps are small and shallow, so these are quick grinds. The catch, as ever, is the minimum callout. A single crepe myrtle will cost you roughly what the crew charges to show up, so it is the classic case for pairing it with something else in the same visit.
One species-specific warning: crepe myrtle suckers enthusiastically from the root collar. If the grind stops at the surface you will get a thicket of shoots where the tree used to be. Ask for it taken well below grade and the surface roots chased if it was a large one.

Mine is a clump. Is that one stump or six?
Six grinds in one place, and that is how it gets quoted. Measure across the whole clump at ground level and say how many trunks when you call. It is still a small job, and it will still run into the callout minimum on its own.
How do I measure my stump?
Measure straight across the widest point at ground level, including the flare, not the trunk higher up. People routinely underestimate by six or eight inches because they measure the wrong place, then get a quote that feels high.
How deep does the grinding go?
Four to six inches below grade is standard, which is enough to fill with topsoil and grow grass. If you are setting a fence post, pouring concrete or laying sod, ask for twelve inches or more and say what is going in that spot.
Will the crew fit into my back yard?
A standard walk-behind grinder needs roughly thirty six inches of clearance. Measure your gate before you call. If it is narrower, the crew brings a smaller machine or hand-clears a path, and that changes the price more than stump size does.
